LONDON

Sorry I've been posting a lot... I just have a lot of catch up to do. The first friday we were here, Joe and I went to London! The cost of traveling is a little ridiculous... ok the cost of everything is a little ridiculous. We went with one of the cheapest options which is riding a bus. It takes about 2 hours to get from Oxford to London by bus so we left at about 6:00 in the morning.

First Stop: Buckingham Palace. Apparently if the flag is flying, then the Queen is in - and it was flying that day. So basically we saw the queen. ;)

Touring the Supreme Court

Joseph in front of Westminster Abbey

These are 10 statues of 20th century martyrs located above the west door of Westminster Abbey. Dietrich Bonhoeffer, one of Joe's absolute favorite people, located fourth from the right.

Big Ben!

10 Downing Street - home of the Prime Minister. Arguably the most important political building in the world.

We had a friend join us for lunch.

Changing of the Guard! We went back to watch this at 11:30 - they do it every other day in the winter. So many people come out to watch - more than any parade I've seen.

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre - we got to watch Richard II which was a fabulous performance. We got the cheapest tickets, 5 pounds, where we stood on the floor to watch the play, like the commoners did in the 1600's. This building is actually a reconstruction of the actual building built in 1599.

During the middle of our day in London, we were walking through the Theatre District and just decided to see how much tickets were for a show. They discount tickets the day of performance before 11:30, and she had two box tickets for 25 pounds for Lion King! (I love musicals, so I was dying). The way they recreated the animals was amazing, we got a whole box to ourselves, and one of the dancers came into our booth at the beginning of the second act.

A successful, exhausting day in London.
